Covid-19: UK-France resumes its services after the travel ban eased

Covid-19: On Wednesday, the UK and France resumed its transportation services this morning. The decision came after the French government imposed a travel ban between UK and France due to new Covid strain. After resuming services, the citizens of French and hauliers are among those decided to travel from French to the UK, if they have a recent negative test.

The government ordered soldiers who joined in NHS Test and Trace staff in Kent. The soldiers advised to carry out rapid tests on lorry drivers in the border. On the other side, thousands of vehicles have been stuck after the governments imposed travel ban between the UK and France on Sunday.

Meanwhile, almost 50 other countries including Italy, India and other Europen Countries imposed travel ban from the UK.

Lorries in the border: 

The ban will affect almost 10,000 lorries a day travelling between Dover and Calais. The supermarket will face a shortage of certain products like lettuce and citrus fruits importing from the UK. 

 

After shutting the border on Sunday, almost 3,000 lorries stuck in Kent border. “Even if the border opens, a short delay will cause huge delays in the supply chain,” said Road Haulage Association.

However, the European Countries imposed restrictions and requesting everyone to “stay at home”. The new variant of coronavirus found in the UK, which is 70% more effective.

As per the agreement between the UK and France, the government allowed those who are travelling for emergency reasons including hauliers, citizens of French, and the citizens of British will be allowed to travel only if they undergo Covid test before departure.

The Netherlands government decided to allow travellers from the UK only if they have a recent Covid negative result. However, the announcement came too late for the citizens living in the UK to take tests in time to get home for Christmas.

On Tuesday, the number of Covid cases in the UK further increased by 36,804 and death toll by 691.
